Modes of application of TestAS

Selection and admissions procedure

There are various ways to use the TestAS as a selection or admission criterion, in addition to other criteria such as the university entrance qualification.

Among other things, you can

  • use the percentile rank to create a ranking and select the best X% of applicants.
  • set a minimum standard (standard score/TestAS score) that applicants must achieve.
  • offer applicants the opportunity to voluntarily enhance their application with a good TestAS result.

In some federal states, universities are free to admit international school leavers who do not have a direct university entrance qualification (HZB) to study under certain conditions. In this procedure (reformed/alternative university entrance), the TestAS can be a component.

‘The University of Hamburg has been using the TestAS for 11 years as part of a bonus model: with a good TestAS result, applicants can improve the grade of their university entrance qualification. The TestAS thus offers us the opportunity to adjust international school grades using an objective procedure to measure aptitude for study.’
